ABOUT THE STUDIO

The hyper-exclusive luminaires by LightCore Studio are vegetal structures redefined through delicate technological procedures.
The process that leads to their metamorphosis starts with the ideas flashing up while collecting them, and includes free association, meticulous technical experimentation and spiritual work.

Most of the currently used components are from the subtropical forests of La Gomera, mediating between climate zones and cultures, sometimes evoking extraterrestrial and otherworldly life forms. Gathering them excludes any nature damage or modification of the environment. Each piece guides the steps of their transformation almost by itself: the discovery, cleansing and preservation, the position of the light sources, and the outlining of the lamp's ideal setting all are results of a respectful, intuitive dialogue between material and maker. This harmonious relationship enables a glimpse into a whole range of worlds for the observer and the later-on owner.

MAGIC

The soft glow filtering through the natural forms or the ancient human attraction to figures projected on a wall is the basis of the LightCore experience. Totems with a suggestive character in the daylight, which took a new shape through the forces of nature and careful elaboration, undergo further metamorphosis at night. The core of the change is lighting, which unfolds images of the viewer's inner world and communicates with vast spiritual regions. Familiarity, homeyness and a spark of magic take hold of the viewer, in which the quality and color temperature of the emitted light play a huge role. Every single piece is a unique story, a unique path, a unique message, an extraordinary and unrepeatable combination.

The studio extends this 100% unique impression to installations that support sustainable interior design or event concepts with unusual mood lighting elements and natural solutions.

SLOW DESIGN

Finding, processing and adding light to the raw materials keep with the principles of slow design. Each piece is the result of personal collecting while hiking. The main pools have been the varied landscapes of La Gomera with its 22 (!) microclimates and the continental slopes of the Pilis Mountains so far. There are plans for material acquire tours in other climate zones.

After proper storing, physical and chemical cleaning and preservation take place. Meanwhile, a concept takes shape, and the list of implementation options starts getting worked out. A long process of experimentation follows, with the optimal placement of the light sources. All lamps get tested for 24 hours, and then after the final surface treatment, test lighting comes again for a full week to eliminate possible overheating or other problems.

Sometimes the direction is clear from the beginning (e.g. Tree), or the implementation process is logical (Flame), thus shortening the process. Other times the preparation itself is so specific that it takes months (Mask).

Since there is no official method for studio work, it is necessary to experiment separately in each case to see what is possible – most importantly, what the plant allows itself. How does it change by heat, moisture, light, water, or mechanical intervention? The accessories and auxiliary materials are 90% of natural origin, including paints, adhesives and the textiles covering the cables.

CACTUS (OPUNTIA)

Opuntia, so called „prickly pears” or fig cactus, is originated from the semi-desert regions of North-America, also can be found in tropical areas of Central and South America. The Aztecs knew its beneficial healing effect, and it was used as currency by the Nazca and Mayan Indians. It came to Europe during the conquests and quickly spread in the Mediterranean regions. It is the main food of purple lice, traditionally bred in the Canary Islands for its red dye.

PALM

The most often used palm in the workshop is the Canary date palm (Phoenix canariensis). The winged compound leaves in its exuberant crown break upwards and bend back gracefully, while the lowest pairs of leaves turn into thorns. Thus, the crown resembles a girl with curly hair and a grass skirt, with fireworks coming out of her eyes. The latter is the yellow panicle flower with the berries that develop from it, which are suitable for human consumption. However they are eatable, due to their low nutritional content and taste, they are used more as fodder.

BAMBOO

Bamboo is a type of grass that may reach not only the height but sometimes even the thickness of trees.
At the same time, it is difficult to determine from a piece of root whether it belonged to a tiny bamboo or a large-grown sugar cane.

The Canary Islands were among the first to grow sugar cane. Cristoforo Colombo took the plant with him to the New World from La Gomera, as a liquid supply for the crew. It also served as a base of exchange for the Indians. Finally, after the acquisition of unlimited agricultural lands, the cultivation of sugar cane and the rum industry also moved across the ocean.

BARK

Bark is a vital element for a tree. It provides protection against environmental influences and protects the tree from drying out, while the tubes of the fiber in the bark transport the organic materials synthesized in the leaves for storage and use, respectively.

The material of all bark lamps created in the workshop comes from already dead, fallen or burnt trees. This makes the procurement process more lengthy, but not impossible. In recent years, we managed to collect the barks of the following trees: mango, avocado, eucalyptus, citrus, different types of pines and oak.

ILDI SARKADI

She planted the first core of light in 2016 after spending years in the business world as an economist and international relationship manager, all the while suspecting her true path would be something else. After a master's degree in design and art management at MOME Budapest and artistic studies at the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA), her fortune led her to the Canary Islands, where the treasures of the subtropical world set off her childlike admiration. The spark to enrich them with light came swiftly, but the passion that came with it remains vivid to this day.

Since the success of the first lamp sold in the art market of La Gomera, she has been experimenting, learning and developing stuff. Her creative intuitions embody thanks to her technical knowledge and maximalism; her method is to go with the material and rely on its demands to become clear gradually. Pushing, hurrying, or a production line approach cannot be part of this process. Every piece is one and only, finding its perfect spot and owner at the right time.

MARCELL SZUHANYIK

Ildi's partner in business and life. He started as a carpenter and graduated as an architect. He plays strings, percussion, winds and keyboards. Composed music, now builds homes while he supports purchasing materials, planning, construction and follow-up work.

His expertise and creativity open up new opportunities, and his technical toolkit adds efficiency and quality to the accomplishment of interior design projects and installations.

MIRÓ

His impending birth brought the couple home in 2018. Currently in charge of LightCore's 'slow and even slower design', he is the sweetener and cutie hot pepper of Ildi's days.

EVENT DECOR

The MUSES light installation is the winner of the S/ALON BUDAPEST design competition. In view of the great success of the debut, it continues its career as a rental installation.
The structure consisting of exotic plant elements provides a surprising appearance and special mood lighting. The programmable play of light and colors shape all this effect according to needs.
Some examples of its application: selfie wall, wedding decoration, mood lighting of VIP waiting room/bar, reception area decoration, light play in individual or corporate colors, garden light installation associated with local vegetation, etc.
